Believe me, I know what that feels like.
Hi, my name is Dr. Paul Baffes and I was exactly there only a short time ago. I tried to be all things to all people…obsessed with ‘getting ahead’ and making everyone happy only to wind up feeling miserable, exhausted and frustrated. And, by the way, everyone wasn’t happy anyway.
So, I decided to fix my life once and for all. I went on a mission to find practical, doable ways to achieve life balance in a short period of time and then implemented the ideas that worked and eliminated the ones that were too tedious or impractical.
There is a solution.
It took me a while but I persevered and figured it out. I decided it was time to take the reigns back. If I wasn’t the master of my universe then everyone else was going to be.
Here’s what happened. First, I got a life. I got to know my wife and became an integral part of my two daughters' lives. I insisted that I NOT work more than a 40 hour week; but I also insisted that when I was at work that I would NOT WASTE MY TIME on the kinds of ‘work’ that were not only non productive but also non rewarding.
That meant that I had to take full responsibility for making my career exactly what I wanted it to be as well as the rest of my life.
Ironically, once I committed to live this way, my work productivity actually increased, my promotions came even quicker, and my reputation literally took off!
It may sound impossible but it’s not!
Sound impossible? It wasn’t! Was it easy? No! But you know what? It was a whole lot better than feeling out of control and letting my life slip through my hands like the sand on the beach.
I figured out how to do it and I decided to share what I learned. The response was extraordinary and people continued to encourage me to talk about how I did it and to teach them how to do it as well.
And once I started teaching others my principles, I noticed again and again that the people I taught became more productive and happier at the same time. I began systematically measuring the effects and saw the same pattern over and over: productivity and workplace attitudes consistently improve (see graphs on the right). I knew then that I had hit on a formula that could help individuals and businesses improve the “efficiency” of their “(work) life.”
The result is Dr WorkLife.
